Day one at DSFitness

Well it wasn't really what I expected, in a good way!

Diane greeted me last night at reception and within 3 minutes I was on a cross trainer... I was on it for ages! Even got to that stage where I had heartburn! It was nice to feel like I was really working tho and even better that someone was pushing me through it all the way. Otherwise I wouldve given up well before I actually stepped off!

I didn't realise she would actually take the time to personally train me. It's just what I need. I'm post natal so my body is so out of shape inside an out. My core muscles don't exist, it feels like a hollow in my stomach still even after 7m. But last night I understood why and what I needed to do to get it back. My measurements aren't too bad but because I don't have any core muscles my natural corset doesn't exist and I hang OUT! :/

So last night was mainly about understanding my own body and what results I wanted from it. And let's not forget I also did my first full workout for about 6 years!

Today I feel good, physically and mentally. I already know it's going to work and I already feel my stomach coming back and I already feel my endorphins releasing stimulous!

I'm ready for my 2nd dose tonight! Bring it!

The Pinfold Challenge

OK so as you all know ever since the Birth of my Son (7m) I have been struggling to shed the baby weight. I did go from 8st 7 to 12st 7 , gave birth to a 9lb baby and was left with about 11st 2. In 7 months I have managed to get down to 10st without too much diet and no exercise really and I'm now a size 12/14 (14 on the hips).

I am quite determined to get down to my regular size 10, healthily. And all before June 11th (my little sisters wedding day) .....and yes, I have ordered a size 10 dress!

So my editor at The Pinfold has layed down a challenge! Lose 2 dress sizes in 6 weeks.

I will be enrolling this evening at 7.40pm with DSFitness for her Bride 2 Fit dose of gruelling exercise and nutrition advice.

I'm quietly excited however because I can't wait to get bck in my old Wocky clothes, craze my endorphins and start eating well again. Plus its great for youthful skin :)

I'll report in later! Adios! X

Carrot clarifier for spring

Not only are carrots good for your health, they can tone and clarify your skin, since they are naturally antiseptic and packed with vitamins (like carotene) and iron.

Carrots are readily available all year rounsoaks cheeeeeeaapp! - so there's no excuse! Homemade masks made from carrots are most appropriate for people with normal to oily skin types but since you're the chef to these beauty recipes, you can include other ingredients that suit your own needs.

My skin tends to be more on the dry side, so I like to add in extra doses of extra virgin olive oil or even half of a mashed avocado to create a hydrating mask.

Nibble on some carrots while you whip up this easy face mask that will be soothing and delicious for your skin! It's ALL GOOD!

HOW TO Homemade Carrot Face Mask....

Peel & steam carrots. Peel one large carrot and steam or boil until tender (when a fork can easily pierce through it, it's ready). Mash the carrot with a fork or masher until it's a creamy consistency.

Mix in honey and extra virgin olive oil. Mix in half a tablespoon of honey and half a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil. If your skin is oily, you may omit the extra virgin olive oil.

Add a few drops of lemon juice. Your skin type will depend on the amount of lemon juice you add in (lemon juice is a natural astringent, so the oilier your skin, the more lemon you want in your mask). If you have dry skin, add about 8 drops of lemon and if you have oily skin, add up to 1 tablespoon.

Check consistency. The mixture shouldn't be too clumpy or too runny. If the mix is too thick, you can add in a bit more extra virgin olive oil or water to thin it out. You can add a bit more honey to the mix to give it a thicker, paste-like texture.

Cool down. Let the mixture cool down so that the temperature is comfortable on your skin.

Mask time. Apply the carrot mask onto a clean and bare face, even your neck if you wish, but avoid the eye and mouth area. Leave it on for 10 -15 minutes and wash it off with warm water afterwards. Pat dry and follow up with your favorite moisturizer or eye cream.

Beautylish Tip: Like any skincare product, be sure to patch test the mask on yourself to ensure that negative reactions do not occur. If you ever feel any discomfort or irritation after you've applied the mask, wash it off immediately with warm water.

A non event..

So today I was full of intention, I have been getting orders for hairbands, garters, allsorts since I started sewing again... So tonight I have to do 5 orders before my hectic weekend begins!

Tomorrow night I'm taking Lex to see the Saturdays in Manchester, then I have gigs Friday and Saturday so I really need to get on with it..

But...
Cooper has been a right handful today. He just wants to watch 'Little Charley Bear' on repeat and scream at it. The moment it finishes he moans... I, however am growing a little sick of James Cordens voice in my house everyday.

So far i have a tidy lounge and kitchen but no sewing has been done. It is also 5.30pm now and i didnt get any Cadbury purple ribbon today so its a late night trek round Dunelm Mill for me..

I made a dress ya know..!

I'm so chuffed with myself! Honestly, I'm over the moon with my new creation, but perhaps more with my new talent :)

It all started with this whole vintage/ 50's/ Mad Men style that's hitting us. I instantly recognised that even my post natal size 14 body could pull this one off.. Boobs, hips... boobs...

So it began. I searched eBay, asos, very, all the usual Internet spots but nope.. Only poor replicas of classic designs and you can never be sure of the material until it arrives. I did however have the experience I gained in Mrs Longmuirs class back in 1995 where I made some flares amongst other things whilst dead set on a career as a fashion designer at 16.. So pattern shopping it became..

I popped along to see Christine Barker in Scott street who was more than helpful, pricey, but helpful. I chose a black and red dog tooth material. But soft not scratchy. And I found a pattern (new look 6000) and decided on pattern C. 2m, a couple of buttons, cotton, zip and £34 later I was sorted..

First things first; I clear my dining room table. (sorry busy house, this table is now mine) Which if your going to try this us essential, clutter and a small working area will not do. You need space, to lay out, take in and ponder.

I cut the pattern to a size 12. They're massive sheets of tracing paper with loads of complicated symbols on them so take some time to read the Key and digest the language before getting scissor happy. Otherwise, like me, you will get in a huff and almost give up before you've started. It's easy, pour some wine, pop Nina Simone on low and take 30mins to read ahead of the instructions and just get into the 50's housewife mindset, perhaps even apply some red lippy and a bow ;)

To be continiued... Must find my iPod for tonights gig.. X

New year diet

Today I start my new year diet. I left you at 10at 7 and a 12/14. Well im still just that. Plus Xmas has been delicious! :)

I'm going to be tackling my recent love for deserts and chocolate. plus addressing some exercise. I will be biking and rollerskating :)

The challenge: brad and I will be battling to lose 10% of our body fat. So I have to lose about a stone and him, 1.5. Its a race. If I win and keep it off for 1 week I get new bathroom flooring. Yey!

I have started with a cup of tea...
